Angoumis Grain Moth

The Angoumis Grain Moth, (Sitroga cerealis), is one the most destructive pests of stored grain, also causing damage in the field. Although it is most important in tropical and sub-tropical areas, it is found worldwide.

It attacks grain maturing in the field and in storage, both whole grain products and corn kernels.

The larvae of the Angoumis Grain Moth  are pale yellow with a yellowish-brown head; they feed within the kernels of barley, corn, oats, wheat and other grains. There may be 5 or 6 generations a year depending on climate. The larva is about 5 mm long when fully grown.

The adult moth is small, buff , grey or yellowish brown, with lighter hind wings heavily fringed with hairs and narrowing to a point. It is about 12mm long with a wingspan of about 15mm.
